Fundraising for Chris

25th July 2013
Louise’s mum Maureen Gilmartin organised a sponsored walk around Pangbourne in Berkshire in October 2011 raising more than £1,500. Friends of the Dubai English Speaking College, where Louise is a teacher, and the design and technology department also organised a festive fayre with stalls selling jewellery and home made baked goods. To raise awareness of cardiomyopathy, CMA leaflets were also on display. Students at the college have also held sales of bakery items, fair trade candy, jewellery and homemade staff lunches. Some also took part in a sponsored slim. Louise, who had been married to Chris for six months, said: “Chris was an Olympic athlete and sport was an integral part of who he was and a past-time that we enjoyed together. “Given his underlying heart problem it was remarkable that he was able to compete at the highest level. Chris lived a fulfilled life but he died far too young. For the 10k event I trained four times a week and did long runs on Fridays. I think Chris was giving me a gentle push from heaven.”
